Dear Golden Community,
I know this school year has been a struggle for us in so many ways; however, as always, I am so proud of our staff, students, and Golden community for remaining focused and staying strong in all circumstances. I am confident that we shared a sense of sadness at the thought of Dr. DeMark not continuing at Golden next year, but equally confident that we all wish her the very best and feel blessed that she has led our school with heart, kindness, and professionalism. Her impact will be evident not only for years to come but will guide us as we continue the good work she has inspired.
At this time, it is my deepest honor to inform you that last night the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School Board of Education approved my appointment as the new principal of Golden Elementary effective July 1st. It is with a humble heart and a grateful spirit that I accept this position. My promise to you is that I will continue to serve Golden students, staff, and the community with the dedication and professionalism required to support the good work and high expectations that have been established over the years.
I have been a part of our Golden community for the last sixteen years as both a staff member and parent. I spent thirteen years as a classroom teacher at Golden before taking on the responsibility and role of assistant principal for the last three years. Both experiences have allowed me to understand our unique school culture and why this school is genuinely 'Golden.' I completed two master's degrees, one in Educational Leadership Administration and the other in Education, as well as sixteen years of teaching experience in our district that includes GATE, English Learners, and students with disabilities. I have been a leader at the school and district level and was awarded PYLUSD Teacher of the Year in 2014. I have two daughters, Kayla (14), a former Golden student and current eighth-grade student at Tuffree, and Ella (10), a current Golden fourth-grade student. I am an avid reader, a beach lover, and both my daughters' biggest cheerleaders on the soccer field. I can assure you that I am stronger than ever and ready to take on this exciting challenge.
Once again, I would like to thank Dr. DeMark for guiding us through one of the most challenging times and for leaving Golden a better place for it. I am forever touched by her leadership and will do my best to continue her legacy. I look forward to partnering with you on this exciting road ahead!
With appreciation and warmest regards,
Ms. Kristin McDonald
Principal, Golden Elementary
