Principal's Message

August 12, 2021

Principal Kristin McDonaldIt is with much excitement that I welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. This year we look forward to returning to some of our favorite Golden traditions, collaborative educational practices, and best of all, full time in-person instruction at the start of the year! In response to this return from both remote and hybrid learning, our theme this year is Bring Back the Love at Golden. We want to bring back the love of learning in a more traditional setting, the love of engagement that drives our student excellence, and most importantly the love of connecting and belonging here at Golden. We have so many exciting activities and programs planned this year, and I know our Golden Community will thrive again. I continue to be inspired by the strength, compassion, and professionalism of our staff, and this will be a year of circling back to the wonderful things our school is known for, while adding in the silver linings we learned from the previous year.

While we happily anticipate returning to something closer to “normal,” we realize that our students, staff, and families have navigated many difficulties throughout this pandemic. To that end, PYLUSD has committed to creating a sense of belonging so that all students feel noticed, needed, and nurtured. We will continue to foster a safe learning environment in which students treat each other kindly, and we hope families will continue these conversations at home through discussions at meals or bedtime. The district has supported us with a comprehensive team of mental health professionals at our school site to assist teachers and school staff in this vision:

  • Part-time school counselor
  • Part-time Outreach Concern counselor
  • Full-time registered behavior technician
  • Part-time school psychologist

Please rest assured Golden is committed to your child’s physical and health safety on campus as well. We will closely monitor and follow all guidelines and mandates from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). We thank you for entrusting your children to us everyday. And finally, we are very excited to welcome Mr. Geoff Smith, Assistant Principal, to our Golden Eagle Family. Please say hello when you see him!

Looking forward to a wonderful new school year!

Warmly,
Kristin McDonald, Principal
