Principal's Message

Dear Golden Eagle Families,


It is with much excitement that I welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year!  I am thrilled to be joining the Golden Community this year. This will be my 17th year in education. I am coming to Golden and the PYLUSD community from the Fullerton School District, where I worked as an administrator in the Educational Services department. Prior to Fullerton, I was a teacher and Elementary Teaching Assistant Principal in the Tustin Unified School District. I am a lifelong learner and continue to work and research at the university level.

 

I am an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern California (sorry Bruin fans!),  and teach classes on academic writing and creativity.. My husband and I live locally with our beloved Westie. I am looking forward to meeting your family as we begin the school year!


Over the summer our campus has undergone some beautification projects. New sidewalks have been added, air conditioning upgrades have been made, and the entire school has been painted. In the last few weeks, our teachers and staff have been returning to campus to eagerly prepare their classrooms for our student scholars. Working with teachers and staff over the last month has convinced me that this is a place where teachers, parents and students want to be.


As we head into the 2018-19 school year, here are some things to remember:

 

On Monday, August 27, Kindergarten families are invited to attend the Kindergarten Meet and Greet from 8:30-9:30 AM. All Golden Families are invited to a Meet and Greet with the Principal, Assistant Principal and Golden PTA from 4:00-6:00 PM.


The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 28. All class placements will be accessible via your Aeries portal on Monday, August 27. As a reminder, all class placements have been made with professional input and purposeful decision making.

Childcare is available on site both before and after school. Please call (714) 996-9391 for information or registration.

New student registration is ongoing. If you know of new students in your neighborhood that will be attending school this year, please encourage them to stop by the office and pick up a registration packet as soon as possible. The school office hours are 7:30 – 4:30 P.M., and it is preferable to register before the first day of school.

 

School Lunches are available for students in grades 1-6 (and K if they go to after school care) cost $2.75. Milk and juice may be purchased for $.50. It is our recommendation that you pre-pay for lunches. Checks should be made payable to PYLUSD Food Services and may be dropped off in the front office. Please be sure to write your child’s first and last name on the memo part of the check. You can find updated information regarding lunch menu and prices on the district website: www.pylusd.org. If you prefer, you can now pay for lunches through our new online payment program.

 

Parking Lot Procedures: As always, please make safety and courtesy your guidelines for behavior in the parking lot. Follow the signs, painted curbs, and directions of school personnel to ensure the safety of the children. Beginning the first day of school ALL students should be dropped off AND picked up using the valet/drive through lane in the main parking lot. Please keep in mind that there is no parking or leaving your car unattended in the drive through lanes at any time. Please stay in your car, pull all the way forward as space becomes available, and load or unload your students safely. In addition, all students are required to exit automobiles from the passenger side only. If you’d like to walk up to school to drop off or pick up your child, please park on the street so our flow of traffic will run smoothly and safely.

 

On the first day of school, all parents are more than welcome to walk their student(s) on to campus and wait in line with them. Grades 4-6 will line up on the upper grade black top. Grades 1-3 will line up at the primary blacktop. Kindergarten students will proceed to kindergarten playground and line up outside their teacher’s door. All students can look for their teacher, who will be holding a sign.

 

Parent Volunteers: Parents wishing to volunteer in their child’s class, will have the opportunity to sign up through their child’s teacher the first few weeks of school or at Back to School Night. For safety reasons, no small children (siblings) will be permitted inside the classrooms while the parent is volunteering.


Golden PTA: The Golden Community is proud of our partnership with the Golden PTA. Parents, teachers and our community work together to provide the best educational opportunities for our Golden Scholars. Our PTA will be at all of our “welcome back” events and will be holding a Coffee with the Principal on Thursday, August 30th from 7:30-8:30 AM. I encourage you to join me in joining our school PTA. Look for the sign-up in the first day packets.

 

Rules and Procedures: Our Parent-Student Handbook is now online. Please visit our school’s website (http://www.golden.pylusd.org) and review it carefully with your child. You will be required to sign a verification letter stating that you have read and understand the contents of the handbook. This letter will be sent home in the first day packet. If you do not have access to the internet, you make pick up a copy of the handbook from the school office.

8/27 Kindergarten Back to School event (8:30 A.M.) Welcome Back Principal Meet and Greet with Dr. DeMark and Mrs. McDonald (4:00-6:00 P.M)

8/28 First day of school

8/30 Coffee with the Principal (Hosted by PTA)

9/6 Back to School Night (details to come) This is an important meeting at which you will meet your child’s teacher and learn about their academic program for the year.
